Went and scoped out an 82 300TD I found via CL. Looked like it was in decent shape, with some body rust. He explained the charging issue, and upon inspecting the belt, I realized the belts were loose enough to lift right off the pullies. Maybe the charging issue is due to the belt being too loose. He did say the tensioner bolt was missing. I really like this car, it even had rally style fogs installed!

Do it. W123's are freaking hilariously fun to cruise around in.

My wife’s dream car haha. And yes, no tensioner bolt most likely equals to charging issues.

I’d be a buyer at (maybe) $600. Max. They I’d burn french fry oil in it.

Charging issue could also be from a bad voltage regulator. I had that problem with my 3ootd while I owned it. It’s a simple fix though.

Take a mechanic with you to assess it. At minimum, do a pressure test on the cylinders.

The interior looks like it’s in good shape, and the mechanical issues aren’t major at all. The fact that the SLS still works is huge. Let me know if you’ve got any questions, I’ve got an ‘84!

Are they really that expensive to upkeep?
